Ashlin’s Favourite Book

Although I just recently started reading faith-based books, I’ve already found my favourite! It’s Bob Goff’s Everybody Always! There are so many reasons why I loved this book: Bob Goff’s inspiring faith, his willingness to listen to God, and his encouraging stories of hope and love.

In his book, Everybody Always, Bob Goff teaches us what love is and how to become love. One of my favourite stories of love occurs in Chapter 5, titled “Limo Driver: Don’t build a castle when you can build a kingdom”. Bob Goff is asked to speak at a national conference for Christian radio broadcasters in Disney World. After deciding he was going, the time had finally come and he set off to Florida. Upon his arrival, he starts searching for a taxi to hop in. But he realized that there had been a limo waiting for him. Before he got into the limo, the driver asked “Who are you?” Bob’s reply was simple, “I’m just Bob.”

Bob got into the back of the limo, and he and the limo driver chatted. He was a friendly driver. During their conversation, Bob asks the limo driver if he has ever ridden in the back of a limo. His answer was no. Since the limo driver was retiring in a month anyways, Bob gets in the front seat and the limo driver got into the back. He drives all the way to Disneyland.

The point of Bob Goff telling this wild, ridiculous, yet hilarious story is to teach us that it’s our job to love the people in front of us. Although the limo driver didn’t think Bob was anybody special, he was very soon proved wrong. Then Bob Goff wrote this:

Loving people means caring without an agenda

Bob Goff

These are the kind of stories Bob uses to teach us how to love. But these aren’t just stories of his family or friends, they are stories of Bob Goff loving others. They are stories of him loving others, because Jesus loves him. And they are incredible.

I highly encourage you to read Everybody, Always by Bob Goff. Not only will you learn a lot, but you’ll have a good laugh at his stories.
